"Fences" period drama (2016, PG-13, 2h 19m) Friday, Feb. 14 a at Carlsbad Dove Library The adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play about a black garbage collector in 1950s Pittsburgh named Troy Maxson. Bitter about his lot in life, Maxson frequently takes out his frustrations on his loved ones.

Step into Inspirations Gallery, surrounded by the striking photography exhibit, "Dear Red, Tell Me Everything," by Suzanne Hansen Ofeldt. The visual art on display will serve as a powerful catalyst to spark creativity. In addition, a special Galentine’s Day bubbles and sweets buffet ($42/guest) on February 12 will feature over a dozen of Extraordinary Desserts’ beloved creations including, Black Velvet, Marbled Chocolate Cheesecake, Flourless Chocolate Cake, Crème Brulee Tarts and tray passed Chocolate Dipped Strawberries and Hot Dark Chocolate. Pose with your sweetheart in front of the Instagram photo wall, dive deep into the spirit of love at The Love Den, and be immersed in all things Valentine’s Day. Extraordinary Desserts’ Bankers Hill location will feature love-inspired drinks and desserts as well.

"King: In the Wilderness" documentary (2018, TV-14, 1h 51m) Friday, Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Carlsbad Dove Library In honor of Black History Month this February, we are proud to present a documentary that explores the final months of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life. Dr. King's legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of American history over the past 70 years. This film provides an intimate look at his last months, marked by personal struggle and doubt, as he and his closest advisors wrestled with the belief that his role as a leading advocate for change had come to an end.

Join us for a powerful event showcasing the oral histories of military veterans. This event offers an intimate look into the personal experiences, challenges and triumphs of veterans from diverse backgrounds. The stories shared will be archived at the Library of Congress and in the CSUSM Kellogg Library, preserving their legacies for future generations. Through these compelling narratives, we aim to foster a deeper appreciation for their contributions. "Summer of Soul" documentary (2021, PG-13, 1h 58m) Friday, February 7 at 5 p.m. at the Carlsbad Dove Library This music documentary explores and reclaims the legacy of the six-week 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. It features unpublished footage of performances by Nina Simone, B.B. King, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, and Gladys Knight & the Pips at Mount Morris Park (now Marcus Garvey Park).
