Join wine whiz Barbara Baxter, who trained at Francis Ford Coppola Winery in Napa and studied in Italy and France, on a delightful romp through cultural history paired with harmonious wines. The Art of Wine will focus on three iconic winemaking regions which also emerged as cultural epicenters throughout history: the city of Rome, pairing outstanding Italian wines with architecture from the classical epoch; wines of Provence paired with the Impressionist artists; and the arrival of both the wine world and art world in innovative postwar Southern California. About Barbara Baxter Barbara Baxter studied wine academically at the Sorbonne in Paris and has continued her inquiry into the heritage of wine for more than a decade. She created visitor education programs for Francis Ford Coppolaʼs Rubicon Estate and has worked for Napa Valleyʼs most prestigious wineries: Sterling Vineyards and Opus One. She is the editor of Planet Wine and has also made wine in Napa Valley. Our creative community nourishes us, allows us a space for healing, and supports us in our flourishing. Almost 20 years ago, transcenDANCE was co-founded by 12 teens and 2 adults who sat under a tree at Hoover High School. Rooted in our strong bonds and love of dance, we dreamed of what transcenDANCE could be for ourselves, each other, and our community. As we reflect on this origin story, we have invited our current CREATE students to explore what grounds them, what nourishes them, and what dreams they want to bring to life. Join the annual search to observe birds during this year's Great Backyard Bird Count, February 14-17. Library staff will be at the park on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. with a Naturalist from SD Bird Alliance (formerly San Diego Audubon Society) to coordinate bird viewing and help you learn to identify birds. Bird identification books and taxidermy specimens will be available for participants to view and Library staff will be there to assist with using bird identification apps. SD Bird Alliance will provide a scope that participants can use to get better views of birds. Grand Caribe is loved by birds because of the native plants. SD Bird Alliance has been hard at work replanting the park with natives and you can help us plant some more at this event! Bring sunscreen, a smartphone, water, and your love for birds!
