  • A small town in Germany turns its town hall into the "world's largest" Advent calendar each December. It started as a way to boost businesses in the winter, but it's grown to mean much more.
  • The San Diego chapters of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) have teamed up to present the first ASID and NKBA Kitchen and Bath Tour. The self-guided tour will feature 12 beautifully designed homes in San Diego County with newly remodeled spaces. Located from Carlsbad to Coronado, the tour showcases an array of tastes, lifestyles, and personal preferences. Projects feature the latest trends in flooring, surfaces, appliances, color, lighting, sustainability, materials, technology and universal design. Advance tickets are $30 per person via Eventbrite. The link to tickets is on the ASID San Diego website, Day-of-event tickets for $35 will be available at all tour sites via Eventbrite. Addresses for all tour sites will be posted on the ASID San Diego website on April 29, the day of the tour. Tickets will also be available at Design Studio West, 4250 Morena Blvd., Suite C, San Diego on the day of the event.
  • Summer Movies in the Park is the largest free and family-friendly outdoor movie series in San Diego County, with dozens of hosting sites and over a hundred screenings. It launched in 2007 as a ‘take back our parks’ initiative – in sync with the County’s Live Well vision to sustain safe, healthy and thriving communities. Shows run May through October, in neighborhoods from the beach to the desert, and everything in between. Each movie event gives residents a reason to visit their local parks after dark, deterring inappropriate loitering and park use, and bringing additional safety and security to residents’ favorite locales. Events begin as early as 5 p.m., though actual movie start times are 15 minutes after sunset. Before the movie, many locations provide additional entertainment like arts and crafts, games, costume contests, music, dancing and food trucks. FAQ: What should I bring? Plan to bring chairs or blankets for your comfort. Chairs are not provided at any of our events. Also, feel free to pack a picnic and enjoy your meal under the stars! Some locations will have food available, so check the Event Specifics section of each location and date for more details. Bring a sweater or light jacket – it will cool down once the sun sets. What if it rains? In the event of rain or high winds a movie may be canceled. If it rains on the day of the movie you’re planning to attend, please contact the Parks & Recreation office to get up-to-date information on possible cancellations. Contact information for each location is in the Event Specifics section of each scheduled movie. Can I bring my dog? Many parks allow dogs as long as they remain on leash.   • Little ones learn best through exploration. Each week your young child will explore crafts using safe, natural materials meant to engage curiosity and wonder. Through hands-on activities, your child will learn to express themselves in a creative way while practicing fine motor skills, eye-hand coordination, and much more. This series is a wonderful introduction to a creative and nurturing learning environment. During each session your child will work on a fun, engaging project they’ll eventually take home. This weekly series is full of hands-on crafts for early childhood. Projects are Waldorf, Reggio, & Montessori-inspired. All safe materials included. Projects and themes are changed monthly to keep young children grounded in rhythm with the shifting seasons. Students can return month after month to continue to explore, learn and develop their skills! Drop-ins are welcome! Is your child curious about craft & taking a class with other children? We welcome trying things out. This 5 week course provides training in the art and science of composting through lectures, demonstrations, and a field trip.
