  • First Thursdays Epic Poetry is a monthly series where we gather live on Zoom to read, discuss, and make sense of some of the longest living epics that have influenced literature, popular culture, and how we think about the past. Together, we will explore Homer’s the Iliad and then the Odyssey, and finally, ending our 10-month series with Beowulf. The live Zoom classes are designed to give you confidence and support you as you read between our live gatherings. Even if you’ve read it once (or many times, like me) you’ll find that there is always something new that arises from these ancient texts, that echoes our modern day struggles or reminds you of what it means to be human. Called "country music’s modern traditionalist," Carter Winter connects with an audience through a fresh sound that like Carter himself, is surprisingly familiar, yet raw and honest. Winter has been influenced by living a life on the edge but having the wherewithal to share life’s ups and downs through songs. As a creative talent, Winter is compelled to do what he does, even if there’s no fallback option. The challenges are what makes the music stand out. The fourth annual City Heights Street Food Fest will be a family-friendly day of live art, music, cultural performances drinks, and street food as diverse as City Heights. All registration/ticketing proceeds will be used to provide job assistance, food, housing, safer streets, and other critical support to the City Heights community. Street food from many cultures around the world will be available for purchase, and your purchase supports sidewalk vendors as they battle unjust legislation that, until recently, made it virtually impossible to be a legally-recognized business. We can’t wait to celebrate and support these food vendors! **Kids are free!** This is a fundraising event so, unfortunately, refunds will not be provided. Thanks for understanding and supporting our mission!
