Learn the Art of Intarsia Woodworking! Sunday, August 9, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Join us in the woodshop for this 5-hour intarsia woodworking workshop! Intarsia is a woodworking technique that involves the use of varied shapes of wood to create an image or pattern. In this class, we will cover shop safety and how to use a scroll saw, as well as best practices for sanding and finishing. Students will choose from a template to transfer to their wood, creating a mosaic-like decorative wall piece. Template options will be provided, and may be altered and edited based on skill level. At the end of the workshop, each student will leave with their own intarsia project. Materials are provided. We recommend students bring their own eye protection, ear protection & apron, but we have some for borrow if needed. Aprons for sale here. No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome. Join us in the woodshop for this 3-hour scroll saw skills woodworking workshop! In this scroll saw for beginners class, students will learn the basics of getting started in the hobby. A list of the tools and supplies needed will be provided, along with a description of the blade types and samples of items that can be made with them. Students will also cover a brief overview of cutting techniques, and tips for success at home. We will then go through four hands-on exercises, to help build your skill set and become comfortable using a scroll saw. You will practice cutting curves, sharp turns and straight lines. Afterwards we progress through the steps and learn new techniques alongthe way. You will leave with the items you make throughout the day. Pictured is the final exercise which uses all of the previous skills practiced earlier to complete it. Materials are provided. Beginners welcome! Join us for this 3-hour workshop, as you learn to handcraft your own unique kumihimo bracelet. Kumihimo is a traditional Japanese artform and craftwork for making braids and cords. In the past, kumihimo decorations were used as accessories for kimono as well as samurai armor. Literally meaning gathered threads, kumihimo are made by interlacing reels of yarn, commonly silk, with the use of traditional, specialized looms. With the advent of an inexpensive handheld loom, you can make bracelets and necklaces affordably and easily.
