We will be hosting a film screening of the highly touted documentary "Home of the Brave". This film is the story of a woman, her father, a house, a forgotten box of letters, and all those left behind when someone gives their final full measure of devotion to their country. Kathy Estocin Foley and P.S. Foley created this thoughtful and artistic documentary about Vietnam War MIA Captain Mike Estocin and those who never forgot him. Capt. Estocin is a still-unaccounted-for fighter pilot shot down over Vietnam. The film will cover the tragic and inspiring story of this Medal of Honor recipient and highlight the courageous actions of Capt. Esocin’s wife, Marie Estocin, who fought as part of the famed League of Wives to bring home all of the MIA and POW individuals from the Vietnam War.

In this inspiring true story, Tomás, a Mexican-American boy and the son of migrant farm workers, meets a caring and inspiring librarian who introduces him to the wonderful world of books. Through her guidance and the magic of storytelling, he discovers a world of knowledge, unlocking his potential and embarking on a journey of self-discovery. The stories enrich the lives of Tomás and his family and instill a love of reading. Adapted from the well-loved book, this heartwarming tale celebrates the importance of access to literature and the power of imagination to transcend boundaries. The 53rd annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights takes place on Sunday, December 10, 2023 and Sunday, December 17, 2023. Come aboard a Flagship cruise for an up-close view of the dazzling holiday boat parade. Approximately 80 festively decorated boats will be on display. The theme this year is "Christmas Traditions around the World." Organizers anticipate a crowd of more than 100,000 San Diego residents and visitors will watch from the shores. On both evenings, we'll be out on the bay offering passengers a one-of-a-kind viewing experience from the convenience, comfort and luxury of a Flagship yacht. Gelson’s invites the San Diego community to take part in Gelson’s annual toy drive in collaboration with Promise2Kids, benefiting disadvantaged children across the region. From December 4th to 17th, customers can participate by donating new, unwrapped toys at any of Gelson’s three San Diego locations - Carlsbad, Del Mar, and Pacific Beach. Each location will have red bins readily available in-store for hassle-free dropoff. For children up to age 5, consider items like rattles, interactive crib toys, soft baby dolls, building blocks, and educational books. Ages 6 to 13 appreciate toys, Play-Doh, crafts, superhero action figures, and coloring books. Ages 13 to 18 prefer board games, makeup, sports swag, and tech items. Gifts suitable for all ages include socks, gift cards, movies, books, and clothing. Avoid toys with small pellets, breakable materials, or promoting aggression. Although appreciated, food donations will not be accepted.
