Marisi in La Jolla Village is introducing an immersive new series that oenophiles are sure to love–Cellar Gems. Beginning on September 4, Sommelier/Wine Director Chris Plaia will pour rare, hard to source wines by the glass with a new selection available every Thursday. “Cellar Gems” is a monthly exploration of exceptional wines, each centered on a distinct theme such as region, style, or celebrated producer. Guided by Chris’ expertise, guests can taste a new rare and celebrated wine every week. The series launches with pours from Italy's most coveted producers, served exclusively by the glass. Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center is inviting the community to come kick off the holiday season and shop local vendors at the Annual Holiday Bazaar. The Holiday Bazaar will take place on Saturday, November 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Olivewood Gardens and will feature more than 40 local vendors and Kitchenista entrepreneurs, and food for purchase prepared by our High School Culinary Program Interns. The free community event is an opportunity to discover handmade goods, holiday gifts, and treats. All proceeds will support the growth of locally owned small businesses. A variety of unique, locally made products will be available for purchase, including handmade scented soaps, candles, salsa macha, local honey, sourdough bread, tamales, jewelry, handbags, knitted wear, and much more. Kitchenista entrepreneurs will be selling artisanal breads, handcrafted jewelry, and Mexican artisan goods. A variety of seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs, and ornamentals will be available for purchase to support Olivewood’s programs. Olivewood Gardens & Learning Center promotes health equity, food access, and community building. Proceeds from the Holiday Bazaar will help Olivewood continue to provide resources, programming, and nutritious food access to the community it serves. A stroll through Escondido’s Felicita Park is a journey not only through nature but also through time, as visitors can uncover remnants of a centuries-old Kumeyaay Indian village.

Balboa Park’s tree canopy features trees from around the world that have monument status in the State of California. These “Guinness Book of World Records Flora” are frequently noted in online lists of amazing trees. This tour will point out their unusual features and provide background on some of their uses in their countries of origin. Forever Balboa Park offers thematic park tours that focus on the park’s unique biodiversity and highlight the park’s horticultural wonders on the first Saturday of each month. Led by park volunteer and horticultural enthusiast Bill Edwards, the free tours leave from the Visitors Center at 10 a.m. unless otherwise indicated. Walks last 90 minutes and are typically less than 1 mile on level terrain. It is advised that potential attendees contact the Balboa Park Visitors Center prior to the scheduled walk to determine if there are any last-minute changes or cancellations to the tours. The La Mesa Village Association's (LMVA) 10th Annual Holiday in the Village event brings the holiday cheer with enhanced holiday traditions that are fully immersed in La Mesa’s charm offering FREE, winter holiday-themed activities during the one-day event for the community to enjoy. The annual Holiday in the Village takes place in the heart of downtown La Mesa along La Mesa Blvd. between 4th Street to Spring Street on Saturday, December 13 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Guests of all ages can take to the “ice” for skating on a synthetic rink. The “Winter Wonderland” kids area is filled with inflatable bouncies. Families can cozy up at the “Mrs. Claus Reading Nook” to listen to holiday themed stories. Putt your way through a Miniature Golf Course full of holiday cheer. Snap a selfie at the holiday-themed photo op stop. And, go on a scavenger hunt along the “Elf Adventure Trail” where guests can seek out elves “hiding” throughout our local businesses and can enter to win one of the elves! Treasured favorites returning to the Holiday in the Village event include “Selfies with Santa”, strolling carolers, holiday performances by local schools, clubs and more, fun-themed holiday stilt walkers, and “Elf Yourself Hats” where guests can outfit themselves in whimsical elf hats. The event will also feature a variety of food vendors selling fresh popped kettle corn, hot food items, beverages and more, plus a variety of vendors to shop for unique holiday gifts!
