Instructor Melissa Ordway will teach the basics of throwing pottery on the wheel. Wheel throwing is a fun process that allows you to make mugs, cups, bowls, and lots of utilitarian objects. Whether you are new to throwing on the wheel or have some experience, you’ll enjoy this class. 5 weeks gives you even more time to practice centering the clay and raising those walls! This class will use mid-fire clay, so after being fired, your work will last for years and years. We will focus on wedging, centering, throwing, trimming and glazing. Learn the ancient fiber craft of weaving your own fabric using a sustainably harvested wooden Rigid Heddle Loom and soft natural fibers. In his hands-on workshop, instructor Jeanine Ertl will teach you everything you need to know to warp and weave on your own. This class is perfect for anyone who’s been curious about weaving beyond a lap loom and wants to learn the warping and weaving processes. We’ll dive into fiber & fabric and demystify the process of getting set up (otherwise known as warping a loom), weaving, and finally, finishing and removing a woven fiber good from the loom! And, you’ll go home with handwoven fabric in-hand. Length of the final piece will depend on the individual’s own pace. All materials included. Scholarships, Military, and sibling discounts are available & Homeschoolers welcome. No experience necessary. Ages 14+ welcome! In this workshop you’ll learn: • How a Rigid Heddle Loom works; • How to Plan a Textile (e.g. sett, basic pattern & choosing fiber, etc.) • How to Warp a Rigid Heddle; • How to Weave; • How to Remove your Woven; • And, How to Finish a freshly Handwoven Textile. Option: Students will weave on my Ashford looms in-class. The instructor will have a variety of Ashford looms (Sample It and Knitters Looms) present for purchase in class. Hold Fast will showcase a wide variety of artists and entrepreneurs who celebrate kelp and seaweed. The event will be a night market featuring printmakers, sculptors, ceramic artists, live tattooing and painting, digital artwork, and an immersive kelp video as well as drinks, snacks, and food vendors. Join UH local and certified yoga instructor, Ashleigh Martinez for 60 minute class designed for all levels. Ashleigh's classes incorporate breathwork, movement and full body awareness. After class, we invite you to enjoy a spritzer, mimosa or cup of coffee on our rooftop patio and stay awhile! Please bring a yoga mat and any props you like to use for your practice!
