Attention high school teens! Need a dress for prom? The Princess Project San Diego is partnering with the library to provide free prom dresses and accessories to eligible teens. Teens in grades 9–12 are welcome to register for an appointment to browse a selection of donated dresses in a variety of styles and sizes. Each participant may select one dress and one accessory at no cost. Click here to view available time slots and register. 1 dress and 1 accessory per person. Multiple bookings will be cancelled. Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Are the dresses really free? What do I need to bring? A: Yes! Dresses are completely free. Teens must bring proof of current enrollment in high school, and complete a waiver before their appointment. Teen participants under age 18 must have their waiver completed by a parent or legal guardian. Q: Can I get more than one dress? A: Each teen may register for one (1) appointment and select one (1) free dress and one (1) accessory. Multiple registrations will be cancelled. Q: Do I need an appointment, or can I just show up? A: Please schedule an appointment in order to reserve a time to get a dress. Q: Do I need to print my confirmation? A: No printing required! Your confirmation email serves as your entry. Tour Balboa Park’s iconic Botanical Building—completely restored to its original 1915 appearance, while upgraded for today’s accessibility and sustainability needs. The history of the building is one of perseverance, transformation, and citizen love, resulting today in a magnificent collection of over 1,000 plants, representing more than 180 species from subtropical and tropical environments around the world. Forever Balboa Park offers thematic park tours that focus on the park’s unique biodiversity and highlight the park’s horticultural wonders on the first Saturday of each month. Led by park volunteer and horticultural enthusiast Bill Edwards, the free tours leave from the Visitors Center at 10:00 a.m. unless otherwise indicated. Walks last 90 minutes and are typically less than 1 mile on level terrain. It is advised that potential attendees contact the Balboa Park Visitors Center prior to the scheduled walk to determine if there are any last-minute changes or cancellations to the tours. The series begins on Friday, April 24, at the Scripps Research Auditorium with the return of Grammy-winning vocalist Luciana Souza, of whom Billboard magazine wrote, “She continues her captivating journey as a uniquely talented vocalist who organically crosses genre borders. Her music soulfully reflects, wistfully regrets, romantically woos, joyfully celebrates.” For her newest project, New Moon, she is united with fellow Brazilian guitarist Marcel Camargo and string quartet. Souza has highlighted the expressive power of the guitar in her work for over two decades, most notably through her acclaimed Duos Trilogy—Brazilian Duos, Duos II, and Duos III—all Grammy-nominated recordings. With New Moon, she deepens that journey in an intimate collaboration with guitarist, composer, and fellow São Paulo native Camargo. Both artists share deep musical roots shaped by São Paulo’s vibrant sonic landscape and a lifelong connection to jazz and Brazilian traditions. In this acoustic project, Souza and Camargo reimagine Brazilian classics and debut new co-written songs, with soulful arrangements by Camargo. New Moon reflects their shared desire to uncover what lies in the shadows, offering a sound world rich in texture, subtlety and emotion. For Souza, the addition of strings realizes a longtime dream. For Camargo, who has collaborated with Bebel Gilberto, Michael Bublé, and Gretchen Parlato, it’s a chance to write with clarity and depth.
