As executive director, she serves as the organization’s chief strategist, spokesperson, and champion for SDAM’s mission – to strengthen San Diego’s creative ecosystem and advocate for greater public and private investment in the people and institutions that make our region’s arts and culture sector thrive. With a career spanning over three decades, Felicia has served in several executive and director-level leadership positions, including the Women’s Museum of California, the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis, the San Diego Foundation, and the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture. Felicia’s commitment to the arts includes volunteer leadership positions within various cultural organizations. She is an appointee to the San Diego County Commission for Arts and Culture, where she chairs the agency’s Strategic Planning Committee. She serves on the boards and finance committees of the Mingei International Museum and Moxie Theatre and is also board Chair of California for the Arts, a statewide advocacy organization. A graduate of Northwestern University with a degree in Communications, Felicia completed additional undergraduate study at UC San Diego, majoring in art history, theory, and criticism. On Thursday, October 31, Halloween, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Mission Valley, the open-air shopping center, invites children and their families to visit participating stores to collect Halloween candy (while supplies last). Each participating store will be marked so families know where to go. The Trick-or-Treat event is free of charge with no pre-registration required. Also taking place during the Trick-or-Treat event, Trinity Theatre, a local performing arts company, will host a 30-minute performance of “The Little Old Woman Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything” by Linda Williams from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the outdoor stage in the center’s AMC Court. The performance, designed for children ages 3 to 5, will be free of charge, but space is limited and pre-registration is required. Comic-Con International and San Diego Public Library have teamed up for the Comic Conference for Educators and Librarians (CCEL). This FREE five-day conference will take place at the San Diego Central Library during Comic-Con® from July 23-27, and will explore the role comics play in promoting education and literacy for all ages. Those in the library and education fields are invited to learn creative and exciting ways to incorporate comics and other popular arts into their work. Through presentations and panel discussions, the Conference hopes to engage the community and promote comics as a medium for learning. Seating is not guaranteed and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration is for interest only and does not guarantee a seat.
