Union Hall Gallery presents: In Pursuit of Light, paintings by Lester Machado From July 6 – August 18 the community arts space will host new works by San Diego plein air painter Lester Machado Union Hall Gallery, a community arts space in Golden Hill, is proud to present the summer exhibition "In Pursuit of Light” in partnership with Santa Ysabel Art Gallery, featuring new works by plein air painter Lester Machado. His work reflects the enduring tradition of Plein Air Impressionism thriving in Southern California. The solo exhibition features fifty new paintings by Machado. The exhibit also includes a collection of works by renown artists who inspire and provide context for Machado’s artistic Language of contemporary realism. “I find inspiration in the unique beauty of the Light we have in San Diego. Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego’s Balboa Park location presents its fall exhibitions. For her first exhibition in San Diego, Nathalie Miebach’s "Restless Waters" show will include a new sculpture based on California’s extreme weather. Miebach foregrounds the human relationship to data in her meticulously researched practice, and uses basket-weaving techniques to transform materials into sculpture, wall installations, and more to describe our reciprocal relationship with data. This exhibition runs Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 - Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025. The ICA Central mezzanine will be the site of Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s celebrated "Remote Pulse," in partnership with Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT), which invites visitors to participate in a cross-border activation using identical pulse-sensing stations—a powerful reminder of both our shared humanity and the vast inequities of life on the US-Mexico border. Create a professional arm-rod-and-mouth puppet of your very own from Rene Rubalcava, owner and puppeteer of LV Puppet Studio of Las Vegas who learned the art of puppet making from a Jim Henson Muppeteer. There’s no better time to create your own one-of-a-kind fuzzy monster! In this workshop, we guide you from start to finish as you select, cut, hot glue and assemble the pieces and personality of your own customized puppet. No sewing is required in this workshop. Students bring their puppets to life with their own unique interests and imaginations, and by choice and placement of different face details. Each one is unique! Find your puppet’s voice and learn some puppetry basics. All materials included.
