As the director of the ESPN-produced, Emmy-nominated, Clio award-winning documentary “Monochrome,” he continues to expand his impact across mediums, exploring the intersections of culture, sport, music, and community. What is this…"Artist’s Way"? Maybe you had a friend who read through it years ago and made some significant breakthroughs. Or you’ve had the book on your bookshelf and promised yourself–this is the year I open it!–every year? Or you took a class long ago…but don’t remember much. Wherever you are at, this is for ANYONE who wants to live a more creative, intentional life. "The Artist’s Way" is for novices and working artists of all types, including writers, visual artists, actors, dancers, musicians…ANYONE who recognizes their innate creativity. In a supportive and safe setting, we will: - Acquaint ourselves with the basics and tools of "The Artist’s Way" (by Julia Cameron) - Work on activities meant to break through some of our creative blocks and give us better insight into creative work we might consider pursuing - And more! Week 1 will be an intro to the program. The next six weeks will be devoted to the chapters (and creative practices), and the last week is a final creative presentation by each student. Through my proven actor-writer storytelling exercises, and my direction you’ll: - Discover how to make every moment on stage alive and unforgettable - Tighten your story so it lands with power - Add depth, humor, and nuance using acting techniques you never thought you could pull off - Create dynamic characters and give them voices, mannerisms, and irresistible energy - Step into strong objectives that drive your scenes forward Every week, you’ll share your works-in-progress, get real-time feedback, and watch your material rise to a whole new level. And because this is me, we’ll do it with laughter, play, and a whole lot of “Wow, I didn’t know I could do that.” By the end? You won’t just have a piece you’re proud of but a performance ready for our virtual showcase on July 14 @ 6-7 p.m. that will leave your audience talking about you long after the curtain falls. In this generative class, we’ll write through sensation: touch, sound, movement, and memory as it’s felt rather than explained. Through guided prompts, we’ll explore how the body can lead us into story; how image and sensory detail can hold emotional weight without needing to spell everything out.
