Held every summer since 1998, the Carlsbad Village Association’s Art in the Village will return on Sunday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for its 27th year! This one-day, open-air art show brings together 150 local and regional fine artists for a dynamic, coastal-influenced art show. All artwork is juried guaranteeing excellent quality in a wide variety of mediums including oil, watercolor, mixed media, digital, glasswork, photography, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, sculpture, and more. Patrons can interact with the artists in their booths, and all artwork on display is for purchase. Celebrating the dynamic art culture in Carlsbad Village and the surrounding areas, this annual event attracts approximately 10,000 art enthusiasts each year. Starting at 10 a.m., just two blocks from Carlsbad State Beach, attendees can browse vibrant exhibits and meet the artists along State Street and Grand Avenue. Art in the Village also features: • Three musical acts, including live performance art on the State Street Main Stage. • Local sidewalk musicians playing throughout the venue during the day. • Live glassblowing by Barrio Glassworks. • Sculpting with live models by Lieu de Sculpture. • Chalk Zone with live painting by multiple local and regional artists. • Free art making pavilion for children and their families, called "Pop-Up Art: An Interactive Encounter," operated by the City of Carlsbad Cultural Arts. • Face painting for kids. Carlsbad Village offers an incredible culinary and beverage scene including fast-casual, coffee houses, wine bars, craft breweries, and full service dining just steps from the Art in the Village venue. The Blazing Laptops Write-a-thon is THE big annual fundraiser for San Diego Writers, Ink (SDWI). On June 22, 2025, writers will write in person at Lestat’s Hillcrest from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Writers seek pledges from sponsors to help raise money for San Diego’s favorite literary arts organization. Presented by the San Diego River Park Foundation Join local insect lovers and photographers, representatives from Bee City USA, and the UCSD Pollinator Club in the Point Loma Native Plant Garden for a Pollinator Safari. Local pollinator enthusiasts will lead short walks around the garden looking for bees, wasps, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other insects visiting the flowers and flying around the garden. We’ll talk about taking photos and collecting data on inaturalist.org. And we’ll have tables with displays of native pollinators, sharing photos and more so you can get a closer look at some of the beautiful and unique pollinators found in the San Diego River Watershed. Join us for Studio Arts, when OMA transforms into an artist’s studio, offering skill-building workshops led by distinguished professor and arts educator Robin Douglas. “Multiple Energetic Drawing and Painting Techniques” Spend this studio exploring wet and dry media exercises with pen, ink, charcoal, markers, and watercolors on a variety of surfaces. There will be many still-life and model options to inspire. Create final imagery utilizing your experimental drawings and paintings. A break for lunch and a relaxed discussion will occur at midday.
