This eight-week workshop style course introduces students to a popular and fun printmaking technique of silk screen. No prior experience in printmaking is necessary. Students will create vibrant, multicolor prints using water-based silk-screen materials while exploring their own style and applying this popular method to their own imagery. The direct, on-screen stencil techniques, such as screen filler/drawing fluid or wax crayon, as well as indirect, photo-emulsion methods of drawing on Mylar will be shown, and digital file preparation will be explored. A stencil monotype-printing and mixed-media approaches will be covered. Students will learn how to set up their own DIY studio and will learn all aspects of preparation, setup, and production of fine art prints. Materials: Ink and studio materials will be provided. On Sunday, February 16, 2025 mycophiles, educators, chefs, supportive businesses and dedicated mushroom amateurs, enthusiasts and professionals will gather at our Annual Fungus Fair in San Diego’s Balboa Park, continuing our mission to help educate our community, exchanging knowledge and celebrating all things fungi. The San Diego Mycological Society was established in 1997 and our group gathers for the many facets of fungi such as culinary, cultivation, identification, photography and art, ecology and more. We have monthly seminars, conduct classes, lead forays to find mushrooms, assist in mushroom identification, and share joy in commensality at member potlucks and chef prepared full course mushroom dinners. The California Center for the Arts, Escondido (CCAEF) proudly announces the launch of the first-ever North County Arts Awards, a prestigious new event celebrating the remarkable talent and creativity found throughout North County San Diego. This exciting initiative will honor individuals across 18 categories in both visual, culinary and performing arts, culminating in a formal black-tie awards dinner on June 28, 2025, at the CCAE Conference Center. Nominations open on May 12 and will close on June 1, 2025. Community members are invited to submit write-in nominations, with the top five nominees in each category—based on the number of nominations received—advancing as finalists. A selection committee composed of respected leaders in the arts and civic sectors will determine the final award recipients. Nominees must be individuals or organizations based in North County San Diego (excluding the City of San Diego proper), reinforcing the awards' mission to uplift and spotlight regional talent often underrepresented in larger arts conversations. As the host and presenting organization, the California Center for the Arts, Escondido is exempt from nomination. We are UB40 featuring Ali Campbell, the founding member and lead singer of UB40. Ali left the original band in 2008 citing management issues and was vindicated when said managers were struck off. Ali was then reunited with Astro when he left the original band in 2013.
