  • Waltz & Such and the SD Vintage Dance Society host their 21st annual Viennese Nights! The Grand Pacific Waltz Orchestra, with Mr. Joe Dyke conducting, plays live authentic period music for waltzes, polkas, mixers, and more. Internationally renowned vintage dance historian Joan Walton will precept, as well as lead an all-levels “Survival Waltz” workshop prior to the ball (11-1 pm, $15), including the specialty and called dances of the evening. The workshop is highly recommended for a more enjoyable ball experience, and the best way to meet potential dance partners. N.B.: This is a formal event, with ladies in long gowns and men in suits, tailcoats, or tuxedos. No casual wear, short hemlines, spike heels, or floor-marking soles allowed.   • The San Diego Early Music Society is thrilled to welcome harpsichordist Aya Hamada. In her San Diego debut, she will perform the program Bach et la France, showcasing how the stylistic influence of French composers such as d’Anglebert, François Couperin, and Louis Marchand impacted the music of J.S. Bach. Praised for her “graceful” (The New York Times) performance, harpsichordist Aya Hamada is an active recitalist, concerto soloist and continuo player. She has given recitals in major venues throughout Japan as well as in the US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland, including recitals for the , including recitals for the Peñíscola International Festival of Medieval and Baroque Music (Spain), Music Before 1800 (New York), Da Camera Society (Los Angeles), Harpsichord Heaven at Flint Collection (Wilmington) and at the Quebec Government Office (Canada). She has made over four dozen appearances as concerto soloist on four continents, and has performed under conductors William Christie, Jordi Savall, Harry Bicket, Nicholas McGegan and Masaaki Suzuki. The New York Times proclaimed “Ms. Hamada gave a deft account of Handel’s Concerto” about her performance with Christie at Lincoln Center. This Week’s Performing Arts Will Be Located in Performance Lab D -10 Alyze Dreiling was born in Detroit, Michigan. She began her violin studies with Mischa Mischakoff .The Detroit Symphony and the Music Study Club of Metropolitan Detroit sponsored her education with Mischakoff. Ms. Dreiling graduated from Indiana University where she studied with Josef Gingold. She holds a BM in Violin Performance from Indiana University and MA from United States International University with an emphasis on Orchestral Performance. Ms. Dreiling was an invited semi- finalist in the European Union Conducting Competition in 2018. She has attended masterclasses with Zoltan Rozsnyai, Gunther Neuhold,, Neil Thomson and Dr. Scott Weiss and Philip Greenberg. Ms. Dreiling was the founding Artistic Director and Conductor of Classics for Kids and currently is Artistic Director and the Emeritus Conductor of YPO Festival Orchestra, Soloists Ensemble and Soloists Sinfonietta and was recently awarded 3nd prize in the American Prize Competition in the conductor of youth orchestra division.
