The mood on the campus of Brown University, a hotbed of student protest last year, is now one of fear and intimidation, according to some students.

Join us for the opening reception of the 14th annual Art-a-thon on January 11th! This group exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, and mixed media works. There will be live music, artists in attendance and drinks available for purchase from Last Spot by Tortari (21+). The reception will mark the official start of the Art-a-thon auction. Proceeds benefit our free teen art program. A week prior, on January 4th, participating artists will donate 24 hours of their time to creating the artworks. The public is welcome to visit the gallery during regular hours to see the artists in action. Highland Way Brian – As the founding member of Highland Way Brian is an enthusiastic and energetic singer and rhythm guitar player. Immersed in Celtic music while growing up in Glasgow, Scotland and having specialized in sound engineering at the prestigious Strathclyde University, Brian hit the road. Now residing in North San Diego County in California, he regularly plays live fronting the five / six piece Highland Way. Brian has successfully lead Highland Way to some of the most prestigious venues in the world, including the largest indoor theater in the USA, the 3000 seat Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, the Redlands Bowl 5000 seat amphitheater and many others. When not performing, writing or producing under the ‘Highland Way Productions’ label you can find him shooting world class photos, walking his dog or riding waves. Paul – Lead Fiddle / mandolin / banjo/ bass and most anything with strings. Paul’s been playing fiddle and mandolin for over 50 years. Somewhere in that time he also picked up guitar, bass, banjo and keyboards. Paul’s an accomplished song writer and arranger having played with ‘The Chieftains’, ‘The Young Dubliners’, ‘Blended Spirits’, ‘Ken O’ Mally’, and regularly performed in LA’s oldest Irish Pub Molly Malone’s with ‘Garrison White’, and ‘Glen Cornick’, original bass player for ‘Jethro Tull’. The "Pleasure of Your Company" music series sponsored by the Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library welcomes the Hutchins Consort on Sunday, January 19, at 2:30 p.m. in the intimate setting of the Scripps Miramar Ranch Library Center. This string octet, performing on custom acoustically designed violin-family instruments—from the 18.5 inch treble to the 7.5 foot contrabass, brings rich sonority to their music, ranging from classical works to rock and jazz. Expect an eclectic and entertaining performance featuring pieces from many cultures and centuries. There is no charge for the concert, although donations are appreciated to help continue the tradition of bringing fine musicians to perform on special Sunday afternoons for monthly concerts in this sought after venue.
