Public-health officials in San Diego County reported 1,434 new COVID-19 cases and 46 deaths from the disease Tuesday.

County supervisors Tuesday unanimously voted in favor making rental assistance more available for those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the program began, it has served more than 3,800 people and connected 1,186 individuals and 43 families to long-term housing. Another 217 San Diegans are "in progress" to find housing through the program.

Reversing the county's 23-year-old ban, the program will create a new strategy focusing on harm reduction to prevent overdoses and the spread of infectious diseases, officials said.
