San Diego County public health officials reported 1,637 new COVID-19 cases and 31 additional deaths Sunday — the 55th consecutive day with more than 1,000 new cases.

Another colder storm is expected to hit San Diego County Suday night with showers breaking out in the evening and becoming widespread overnight through early Monday.

San Diego County public health officials have reported 2,980 new COVID-19 cases and 43 additional deaths while expanding eligibility to receive the coronavirus vaccine to those ages 65 and older.

The county of San Diego expanded the category of those eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccination to include those ages 65 and older.

San Diego residents were warned Saturday by county health officials to avoid the water at all coastal beaches and bays because of the danger of dangerous levels of bacteria caused by urban runoff from the day's rainstorm.

Cool weather was forecast Saturday for San Diego County with periods of rain and snow in the mountains, but showers will be more numerous in the afternoon and evening before winding down late at night, the National Weather Service said.

The announcement comes after a judge struck down San Diego's COVID-19 vaccine mandate, saying only the state can make that a requirement.
