Rosarito Beach Hotel owner reflects on the state of Baja California tourism
Tourism is a multibillion dollar industry on both sides of the border and Tianguis Turístico — the largest tourism conference in Mexico — is underway in Rosarito this week.
That's a big deal for Hugo Torres, who runs the 100-year-old Rosarito Beach Hotel.
He said winter business was a little slow, but he is optimistic about the future.
"I think this is just temporarily, and we're going to go back to normal by summer," he said. "So I hope that it's not a big recession. Las tarifas, the tariffs — I think they're going to think them over again."
Torres said tourism is now an aspect of a larger economy in Rosarito, thanks to big companies and maquiladoras coming to town.
