Both supporters and opponents of California's Proposition 8 are gearing up for tomorrow's arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court. The measure banning same-sex marriage in the state was approved by voters in 2008.
San Diegans will be taking part in rallies both here and in Washington DC.
Rev. Darryl Kistler, senior pastor of the Kensington Community Church, will be on the steps of the U.S Supreme Court in support of marriage equality for same-sex couples. And in San Diego, Proposition 8 supporters will rally at the federal courthouse. Charles LiMandri, with the Freedom Conscience Defense Fund will speak at the event.
The justices will also hear arguments this week on the Federal Defense of Marriage Act, known as DOMA.
Meanwhile, California's attorney general is asking the U. S. Supreme Court to rule against the state's same-sex marriage ban. On Friday, Kamala Harris filed a friend-of-the-court brief in the lawsuit over Proposition 8 claiming it's unconstitutional. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the suit next month.
