Geek Roundtable Takes On Universal Monsters

For this week's edition of the Cinema Junkie Podcast, I unearth a Geek Roundtable with fellow podcaster and Horrible Imaginings Film Festival director Miguel Rodriguez to discuss Universal monsters and the continuing film series The Universal Suspects at the Digital Gym Cinema.

This podcast was recorded earlier this year when the Film Geeks at the Digital Gym Cinema launched the Universal Suspects film series. The Film Geeks is a group of volunteers from the film community and includes Rodriguez, Michael McQuiggan of FilmOut, myself, and others.

The film series is billed as "40 monsters, 31 movies, 12 months and no escape." We are in the second half of the series and this weekend "Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy" and "The Mummy’s Ghost" will screen on Sunday at 1pm at the Digital Gym.

Back in January I convened a geek roundtable with my partner in crime and fellow film geek Miguel Rodriguez. The Universal Suspects is the first yearlong film series we programmed as part of The Film Geeks. We went with our hearts and programmed the complete collection of classic Universal monster films.

Here is our discussion of everything from "Dracula" to the "Creature from the Black Lagoon," which closes the program on Dec. 13. Hope you enjoy listening to us geek out about the movie monsters we love!
