The Día de los Muertos celebration at the Sherman Heights Community Center is a month-long community festivity that preserves the Day of the Dead tradition, itself an millennial practice.
Over the years the festivity has grown to include onsite community altars, front-yard altars throughout the neighborhood, craft workshops, online tutorials and videos, an activity guide, student tours and food tastings, a festival, a procession and two fundraising events. The tradition is a joyous occasion when the memory of our ancestors and the continuity of life is celebrated.
This year's Día de los Muertos festivities run from early October through November 2 and are open to the public.
Visit the Sherman Heights Community Center website to see the full program of activities.
All festivities of the Dia de los Muertos celebration are free to the public.
