Returning to the stripped-back, string band sound of their busking years, Lost Dog Street Band’s new album "Glory" is a searing testament to recovery, redemption and resolve. Fronted by songwriter Benjamin Tod and his wife, fiddler Ashley Mae, the DIY band began out of desperation on the sidewalks of Nashville roughly a decade ago, but now sustains a significant national audience that’s drawn to their authentic songwriting, old-time instrumentation, and hard-won independence.
“I wanted to make an album with the specific intention of being raw but full at the same time and to get back to our roots,” Benjamin Tod says. “Everyone on this album has been a busker. Douglas Francisco, who plays slide guitar — I met him on the streets busking. Jeff Loops, our bassist, was in a busking band, too. That flavor was important to me, just getting back to the root of things.”

Matt Heckler is a solo multi-instrumentalist that barely fits into any ordinary musical category. He tends to keep to the darker side of Appalachian mountain music and early bluegrass but listen long enough and you’ll soon be transported to the mountains of Eastern Europe or a dimly lit bar in Ireland where they honor those who have passed with a gently swaying a cappella ballad.

Belly Up Tavern
The internationally acclaimed Belly Up Tavern located in Solana Beach, has a long history of bringing great live music to the San Diego area. They have all types of music almost every night. They serve limited bar food and alcohol as well. The Belly Up has been continually voted “San Diego’s Best Live Music Venue” by several publications including The San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego Reader and San Diego Magazine as well as heralded as one of the hottest clubs on the west coast by Rolling Stone Magazine. Step next door to the Wild Note Cafe, their neighborhood bistro-style restaurant, and you have all you need for a complete night of entertainment, great music, food, dancing, drinking and socializing. Wild Note Cafe is only open on Mondays if there is a show at the Belly Up. This venue is open to individuals 21 and older. Parking: Parking is free at the Belly Up, and is located right on the side of the club. Street parking is also available. Box Office Hours: The box office is open from noon until end of show on nights of shows.
