An international phenomenon, GRAMMY Award-winning tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain is one of the foremost percussionists of the contemporary world, whose brilliant and exciting performances have established him as a national treasure of India. Widely recognized as a chief architect of the world music movement, Hussain has participated in historic collaborations, including Shakti, Remember Shakti, Diga, Planet Drum, and his ever-changing musical feast, Masters of Percussion, a platform for rarely heard rhythm traditions from India. Over time, the Masters of Percussion ensemble has expanded to include great drummers and percussionists from many world traditions, including jazz, as well as the occasional stringed instrument.
