“THE BIG SLEEP” (1946. 114 minutes) — Humphrey Bogart is properly steely as detective Philip Marlowe in Raymond Chandler’s racy whodunit. Bogey tries to sort out the guilty parties when he is hired by a decadent millionaire to save his spoiled daughters (Lauren Bacall and Martha Vickers).
