Join the City of Carlsbad for a sustainable holidays-themed fixit clinic and repair event at Cole Library on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Repair: Keep items out of the landfill and get help fixing small household appliances, electronics, bikes, clothing and more.
Reuse: Ditch the paper and wrap your holiday gifts using recycled fabrics.
Repurpose: Find new life for felt fabrics by crafting your own holiday star decorations.
Recycle: Bring in used household batteries and holiday light strands for recycling.
This event will also feature two screenings of the documentary “Abundance: The Farmlink Story” at 10:30 a.m. and noon, with a Q&A session with the director at 11:30 a.m. The short film highlights a group of college students who set out to reduce food waste and help people experiencing food insecurity.
Georgina Cole Library
The Georgina Cole Library is a part of the Carlsbad City Library system. Cole library recently underwent renovations. Improvements include enhanced technology and Wi-Fi connectivity and power access, improved accessibility, additional comfortable gathering spaces, collaborative study and meetings spaces, a new Friends of the Library bookstore, new carpet and paint, a new elevator and a fire sprinkler system. The new study and meeting spaces will be equipped with technology and will be available by reservation or drop-in. A one-stop central service desk is also being added to better assist library patrons and a real-time material check-in system will improve efficiency. The reopening of the Cole Library marks the beginning of the second phase of the city’s library modernization project that also includes improvements to the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane. About 85 percent of city residents visit the library in person or online every year, and 57 percent use library services on a monthly basis.
