Calling all community members, Fiber-interested, & Fiber Friends!
Knitters! Crocheters! Weavers! PomPom Makers!
You are invited to join us for “United By Yarn / Unidos Por El Estambre: A Celebration of Textile Art and Community Connection!” Embrace the beauty of fiber arts with a collaborative initiative brought to you by San Diego Craft Collective, Visions Museum of Textile Art, and Songbirds Music.
This engaging project will support community-created yarn bombing projects for all three organizations and is set against the backdrop of VMOTA’s upcoming exhibition, “Latine: Entretejida / Interwoven” (May 11 to October 5, 2024). Come and contribute to the creation of community art, celebrating the diverse and rich textile heritage of the San Diego / Tijuana region!
We’ll provide the yarn and tools . You provide your creative magic! Don’t know how to crochet or knit? We’ll have fiber mentors to help you learn & create!
We will be using acrylic yarn (so it will withstand the outdoor weather for our installations) and will have crochet hooks available, while supplies last. If you already have your own knitting needles or crochet hook, we’d appreciate it if you’d bring it along to use. We are accepting donations so we have enough for this event. If you would like to donate acrylic yarn or crochet hooks, please email team@sandiegocraft.org so we can coordinate with you.

How else can you get involved?
Can’t come to the April 13 event? You’re invited to mail in a piece for the yarnbombing final work of art. Between now and April 8, 2024, you can mail in a knit, crochet, or woven motif to be used in the final yarn bombing projects. Please use acrylic yarn, keep the final motif to 12” x12” or less, and mail to VMOTA, 2825 Dewey Road, Suite 100, San Diego, CA 92106. We will accept 3-dimensional pieces too!
Our Crochet Club is free this March and April, for people who want to come crochet/knit/weave together for this yarnbombing project. We’ll provide the yarn! Email us to sign up.
Join us for a Sit and Stitch Session at San Diego Craft Collective on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. as we kick off the festivities, where you can crochet and knit projects to finish and donate to the United by Yarn project!
