J.T. Burke’s highly anticipated exhibition, "Paradise," makes its San Diego debut at the Mandell Weiss Gallery on October 4, 2024, offering viewers an exploration of myth and utopia. Opening as part of the San Diego Ballet’s 35th season launch event, "Overture," the exhibit promises an engaging blend of contemporary art and performance. Exhibit runs through Jan. 17, 2025.
Burke draws inspiration from vintage costume jewelry, sourced from swap meets, garage sales, and forgotten drawers, transforming these discarded artifacts into luminous visions of an imagined utopia. Through intricate digital manipulation, he creates surreal compositions that blur the line between the real and the fantastical, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the intricate details where the mundane meets the mythical.
The opening coincides with "Overture," the San Diego Ballet's season debut event celebrating its 35th anniversary. This free event brings together contemporary art and dance in the creative space of ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station, with dance previews at 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
