Smith Recital Hall: SDSU
All Ages
$10 - $15
Tickets must be purchased online.

Central Javanese wayang kulit is a form of shadow puppet theater that brings ancient stories to life through intricately carved leather puppets, vibrant live gamelan music, and the masterful storytelling of the dalang (puppet master). A tradition that dates back centuries and portrays the epic stories of Ramayana and Mahabharata, wayang kulit blends mythology, philosophy, and humor into an immersive performance that captivates audiences of all ages.

Rarely experienced outside of Indonesia, this is a truly immersive performance you won’t want to miss! On Monday, May 5, 2025, we are honored to welcome Bapak Midiyanto (UC Berkeley) and his son, Hanggoro Murti (Java, Indonesia), alongside the SDSU Javanese Gamelan Ensemble for two special showings—one at 6 p.m. and another at 7:30 p.m.
