La Playa Books, a local indie bookstore, is hosting 3 bestselling authors on May 10 in Point Loma during two back-to-back events.

Sameer Pandya will be discussing and signing his latest book, "Our Beautiful Boys," at 4 p.m. at La Playa Books in Point Loma. When the star players on a high school football team are accused of violence by another student, their secrets and the secrets of their parents threaten to shatter their community and families.

The New York Times Book review calls the book “Timely and timeless”. A bestselling author, Pandya was a finalist for his previous book, "Members Only," for the NPR Best Books of 2020 and was Longlisted for the PEN/Open Book Award.

Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai and Le Ly Hayslip will be in conversation about Nguyễn’s debut poetry collection, "The Color of Peace," on Saturday May 10, at 7 p.m. at the Westminster Church in Point Loma. The evening of poetry, music and discussion will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War.

Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai, the global bestselling author of the novels, "The Mountains Sing" and "Dust Child," is a New York Times Editor’s Choice, the Recipient of the PEN/Oakland Josephine Miles Literary Award and a runner-up for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize. Her first novel was described by Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Viet Thanh Nguyen, as a “triumph...Moving and riveting”.

Le Ly Hayslip is an internationally known Vietnamese-American author, philanthropist, peace activist and speaker. She is the author of two memoirs, "When Heaven and Earth Changed Places" and "Child of War, Woman of Peace," that were adapted into the film "Heaven and Earth," directed by award-winning director Oliver Stone and starring Hiep Thi Le and Tommy Lee Jones. Le Ly Hayslip has dedicated her life to humanitarian and peace work.
