Get ready for the school year with creativity, confidence, and community at Artful Start: Back-to-School! This free event invites K–12 students in need to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon filled with hands-on arts activities, helpful resources, and back-to-school essentials.
Hosted by the California Center for the Arts, Escondido Foundation, "Artful Start" is part of our Arts for All programming. We believe the arts have the power to connect, uplift, and inspire people of all ages. By providing accessible, engaging experiences, we hope to welcome more students into the creative world and support their potential as they head into the new school year.
Event Highlights:
- Free Art-Filled Backpacks
Every student will receive a bag filled with quality art supplies, a Passion Planner, and an art book inspired by the Center’s murals.
- Complimentary Haircuts
Students can start the year fresh with a free haircut—because creativity comes in all forms, including personal style.
- Community Art Lab
Participate in hands-on art projects and take home your own masterpiece! All students will also receive a free annual museum pass.
- Local Resource Fair
Meet local businesses and community organizations offering valuable services and support for students and families.

California Center for the Arts: Escondido
The California Center for the Arts, Escondido is situated on a 12-acre campus in downtown Escondido adjacent to Escondido City Hall and Grape Day Park. The campus is comprised of a 1,523-seat Concert Hall, a 406-seat Center Theater, a visual arts Museum, art and dance studios, and a Conference Center containing meeting and banquet facilities. Groundbreaking occurred on June 22, 1991. Since its opening on October 1, 1994, The Center has attracted more than one-million visitors through its performing and visual arts presentations, events in the Conference Center and education programs.
