At this year's Veterans Day ceremony on Saturday, November 8 at 11 a.m., the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial will honor all Veterans who have served in our country's Armed Forces and pay special tribute to the 250-year legacies of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps and the enduring spirit of service that has defined these two branches for a quarter-millennium.
The program will feature reflections on the past, a look to the future, and a special recognition of two historical installations - Naval Air Station North Island and Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego - and two men who represent their origins and immense impacts on their respective branches: Commander Theodore Gordon "Spuds" Ellyson, the Navy's first aviator, and Major General Joseph Henry Pendleton, MCRD San Diego's first commanding officer. This event is a powerful reminder of how their early dedication shaped a lasting legacy.
