UCSD Professor and 30+yr music producer, King Britt returns to our library to present a series of special lectures, illuminating the innovators of color in electronic music. Professor Britt will let the audience choose from one of five different pathways leading to the birth of specific genres including Funk, Philly Disco, Chicago House, Detroit Techno, Birmingham’s Sun Ra and more.
Within the music and visuals, lies the socio-political contexts in which all of these innovations are a response to. Join us for the rest of the series on February 7th, February 21st, and February 28th. A must for all ages and ethnicities who want to learn about the true Black history of these movements. This is part of Professor Britt’s "Blacktronika": Afrofuturism in Electronic Music course at University of California.
