Dr. Rima Greenhill will discuss how a close reading of "The Winter’s Tale" will reveal the author’s detailed knowledge of Muscovite life, culture, climate, and Anglo-Russian marriage negotiations. And you will learn why the play contains the stage direction “Exit, pursued by a bear.”
Dr. Greenhill is a Senior Lecturer in Russian language in the department of Slavic languages and literatures at Stanford University. Prior to that she taught at the School of Slavonic and East European Languages, London University where she also received her PhD in Russian language and literature. She is the author of "Shakespeare, Elizabeth and Ivan: The Role of English-Russian Relations in Love’s Labours Lost."
