Set in post-revolutionary 1930s Mexico, "Arráncame la vida" ("Tear This Heart Out") follows Catalina, a young 15-year-old girl who marries Andrés Ascencio, a charismatic, ruthless military general and politician. As Andrés rises to become governor of Puebla and a national power player, Catalina evolves from an innocent bride into a politically savvy woman, eventually finding passionate liberation and a secret affair with an orchestra conductor named Carlos. Mexico's official submission for the 2009 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
