The Olaf Wieghorst Museum presents Larry Maurice – the Cowboy Entertainer – for a one man show on September 12, 2026 in Downtown El Cajon. Rarely in Southern California, Larry brings his classic frontier humor to a contemporary audience.
Much like 19th-century humorist Mark Twain, Larry Maurice uses storytelling, verse, and oral history to preserve the culture of the American West. Using minimalist staging, Larry’s personal charisma, vocal modulation, and timing to holds his audience. His stories of the Old West blend historical education with entertainment.
Beyond the stage, Larry has been an author, a poet, a rodeo announcer, a master of ceremonies and a historical advocate. He was named Cowboy Poet of the Year and received the American Cowboy Culture Award. You have heard him at the Lone Pine Film Festival, the Autry Museum and on television specials for the FOX network.
He can recite cowboy poetry and share historical anecdotes with the best entertainers of the Century.

This event is held in conjunction with the Alley Cat Art Fest in Downtown El Cajon. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. on event day.

Olaf Wieghorst, known for his magnificent portrayals of the nineteenth century American West, exhibited a remarkable affinity for the cowboys, the Native American Indians, and the settlers who helped shape this country's Western landscape. During his career, Wieghorst sketched and painted hundreds of pieces of work, 92 of which were issued as limited edition prints. His work hangs in a number of museums including the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City and the Whitney Gallery of Western art in Cody, Wyoming. Private owners have included local residents, Hollywood celebrities, arts patrons, industrialists, investors, and four United States presidents. The Olaf Wieghorst Museum and Western Heritage Center in El Cajon, California, honors the accomplished artist who lived in our community for more than 40 years.
