Illuminate Speaker and Engagement Series: 'Stories, Work and the Way Forward'

More than four decades after Dolly Parton sang about working “9 to 5,” the workplace issues behind the iconic song and film continue to invite conversation. On Sept. 17 at 6 p.m., Point Loma Nazarene University will bring together women from different generations and professional backgrounds for “Stories, Work and the Way Forward,” using the documentary 'Still Working 9 to 5' to explore how the workplace has changed, where challenges remain and how we can move forward together.
The panel includes Barbara Bry, former San Diego City Councilmember and founder of Athena San Diego, Run Women Run and the Workplace Equity & Civility Initiative; M. Venessa Jackson, whose career includes decades in banking and finance followed by 16 years at San Diego City Hall; Taylor Dunner Woof, a program director at Capitol Impact working with public, private and philanthropic leaders to strengthen California’s workforce and education systems; and Camille Hardman, producer of the documentary “Still Working 9 to 5.”
The event will begin with snacks and networking outdoors followed by viewing clips of the documentary and panel discussion indoors starting at 6:45 p.m.
