Join ethnographer and musician Yale Strom for an online lecture exploring the deep and fascinating connections between Jewish culture and jazz. Drawing on decades of fieldwork, musicological research and artistic practice, Strom will uncover how Jewish musicians shaped one of America’s most iconic art forms.
Yale Strom is one of the world's leading ethnographer-artists of klezmer and Romani music. He holds a master's degree in Yiddish Studies and has directed 10 award-winning documentary films, including The Last Klezmer (Oscar short-list). He has written 15 books, recorded 20 CDs, and served as Artist-in-Residence in Jewish Studies at San Diego State University from 2006 to 2020.
