Place influences how we and our characters speak, what we eat, our influences and awareness; it shapes our beliefs, our values, and our moral choices. We cannot separate who we are from where we are or where we have been. History and memory are rooted in place and the map of our psyche and that of our characters is found in the geography of our past and in the present. Everything happens somewhere and readers want to know where that somewhere is, and how it influences the story. In this generative writing workshop, we’ll explore place through writing exercises and prompts.

San Diego Writers, Ink is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We offer classes, groups, workshops, readings and other literary events at The Ink Spot and other locations throughout San Diego County. Parking: Plenty of free parking near building, including parking lot just outside. Offices are upstairs from the Women’s History Museum. Hours: We are only open during events and classes. Please check our schedule. Most classes and events are held in the Ink Spot but some are held in other locations throughout San Diego, including the La Jolla Public Library and Lestat’s Coffee House. Please double-check where your event is being held.
