This September, celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the Latino-owned businesses that make Third Avenue so dynamic. From time-honored family recipes and authentic Mexican cuisine to contemporary boutiques, artisan goods, and exciting new concepts, every storefront reflects this unique fusion of culture, creativity, and community. Discover their stories, flavors, and innovations that are not only honoring the past but shaping the future of Downtown Chula Vista.

Start exploring at Galū Café & Delicatessen, a celebrated gathering place that takes pride in making its delicacies from scratch using locally sourced ingredients. Grab a seat on their new lush palm-lined patio and enjoy menu items like their Tamago toast or one of their many seasonal matchas. Galu Cafe lives and operates with one mission: to serve its community without compromising on quality or attention to detail while creating a welcoming environment.

Step into the whimsical world of El Cholo's Kid, where every shelf is filled with one-of-a-kind finds - from colorful stationery and clever T-shirts to beautifully handwoven bags crafted by Mexican artisans using recycled plastic. It's the perfect place to discover unique souvenirs and handmade treasures you won't find anywhere else. Plus, check out their new sister-store, Amor Eterno: a metaphysical shop featuring tarot decks, crystals, and all things spiritual. These two spots bring magic and lighthearted fun to Chula Vista.

While you’re shopping, take a break for a little cafecito and chisme at Mujer Divina. This woman-owned coffee and burrito shop is the perfect place to channel your inner diosa. An iced Café de la Olla + their best-selling Machaca Ranchera Burrito make Mujer Divina a non-negotiable stop in Chula Vista. Down the road, founder Marianna Cardenas is serving up hearty burgers and craft sandwiches at Balboa South. The female-owned businesses of Chula Vista proudly breathe fresh energy into the neighborhood and its culinary scene.

There is no shortage of mouthwatering restaurants where the aromas of homestyle Mexican cooking fill the air. Talavera Azul is the ultimate hub for traditional Mexican breakfast foods. Locals rave about their specialty Chilaquiles, which come with a variety of classic sauces including chipotle, poblano, and mole.

For classic eats like fish tacos, savory carne asada fries, and rolled tacos, pop in at Don Pedro Taco Shop in the heart of Third Avenue. At El Comal, guests are immediately transported back to their abuela's kitchen where the aroma of familiar comfort foods fill the air. Come try their breakfast where the Huevos Divorciasdos are the star of the menu. There truly is a unique family sabor at every stop.

Did someone say, "Salucita!"? La Nacional is your friendly neighborhood cantina where Eddie Trejo and Joann Cornejo offer Mexican-inspired cocktails and happy hour fun. Friends, families, and newcomers are all welcome to stop by, let loose for the night and maybe catch a futbol match!
