“The Necessities of Life” (Canada. 2008. 102 minutes) - In 1952, an Inuit hunter named Tivii with tuberculosis leaves his northern home and family to go recuperate at a sanatorium in Quebec City — uprooted, far from his loved ones, unable to speak French and faced with a completely alien world. (In Inuktitut, French, Latin and English with English subtitles).

In 1952, a consumptive Inuit hunter named Tivii (Natar Ungalaaq, star of Atanarjuat:The Fast Runner) leaves home and family in Baffin Island to recuperate at a sanatorium in Quebec City. Uprooted, far from his loved ones, unable to speak French and faced with a completely alien world, he becomes despondent. When he refuses to eat and expresses a wish to die, his nurse, Carole (Evaline Gelinas), comes to the realization that Tivii's illness is not the most serious threat to his well-being. She arranges to have a young orphan, Kaki (Paul-Andre Brasseur), transferred to the institution. The boy is also sick, but has experience with both worlds and speaks both languages. By sharing his culture with Kaki and opening it up to others, Tivii rediscovers his pride and energy. The two become such close friends that Tivii hopes to adopt Kaki and bring him back to Baffin Island and a true Inuit life.

“Believe in Me” (USA. 2006. 131 minutes) - In a conservative small town, a young man's wishes to coach high school basketball are tweaked by a school board decision that makes him the new coach of the girls' team. (In English).

“The Tunnel” (Germany. 2011. 150 minutes) - During the Cold War, Germany was divided into two states - East and West. This epic story tells about their dramatic connections. (In German with English subtitles).

n 2007 the New South Wales government suddenly scrapped a plan to utilise the water in the disused underground train tunnels beneath Sydney's St James Train Station. In 2008, chasing rumours of a government coverup and urban legends surrounding the sudden backflip, investigative journalist Natasha Warner led a crew of four into the underground labyrinth. They went down into the tunnels looking for a story -- until the story found them...

“Burn Your Maps” (USA. 2016. 102 minutes) - A family in emotional turmoil is taken by surprise in this quirky adventure where an eccentric 8-year-old American boy, Wes, has an existential epiphany — he believes that he is, in fact, a Mongolian goat herder. (In English).

Cinema Under the Stars is an intimate outdoor movie theater in Mission Hills, directly behind Tops Salon. The theater features a 20-foot screen with HD projection and THX surround sound. Open air seating includes your choice of single & double zero-gravity recliners, love seat cabanas, or deck chairs with ottomans. For additional comfort, there are pillows, blankets and heaters and a waterproof canvas cover installed for the Winter months, in case of rain. Concessions: Popcorn, candy and assorted hot or cold beverages are $2 each. There are also several restaurants within walking distance in the neighborhood for dinner before the movie. Enjoy classic films, cult favorites and recent releases on the weekends, year round. There will be a brief introduction and a classic cartoon prior to the film.
