Megs and Davey are Vietnam vets who don’t see much of each other anymore, although they live in the same town. But, on opening day of trout season, Megs shows up to take Davey fishing in honor of their pal Bobby, who died alongside them in war, and to get some closure on the tragic experience they shared.
Davey lives with his sister Martha, a plain, lonely high school teacher who acts as his caregiver. He masks his pain with alcohol and refuses to talk about his war experiences. The gregarious, charming Megs tries to hide his own explosively angry tendencies and can’t stop talking about Vietnam.
Their friendship is tested when a romantic relationship develops between Megs and Martha. All three characters are “wounded warriors,” struggling to get past their pain, loss and guilt and get on with life. This play is recommended for high school age or older.
