Before "Rent," there was "Tick, Tick... BOOM!," the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning composer of "Rent."
Set in 1990, "Tick, Tick... BOOM!" is a eureka moment sandwiched between rock music and whimsy, telling the story of a writer's sacrifices made to achieve his big break in theatre. With three actors playing ten characters, "Tick, Tick... Boom!" takes you on the journey that led to a Broadway blockbuster.

Diversionary Theatre is situated in the San Diego neighborhood of University Heights, just minutes from all the major freeways and right next to Hillcrest. We are located 2 blocks North of El Cajon Boulevard. The box office, lobby and concessions are located on the first floor of the building. The theatre is located on the second floor, and is accessible by both stairs and a lift. Diversionary Theatre was founded in 1986 to provide quality theatre for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. The mission of the theatre is to provide an inspiring and thought provoking theatrical platform to explore complex and diverse LGBT stories, which influence the larger cultural discussion. Our vision is to foster and amplify the next generation of LGBT voices providing live entertainment in a dynamic, inclusive and provocative environment that celebrates and preserves our unique culture.
