Former NBA basketball star Denis Rodman is wearing a new team's jersey. The seven-time rebound champion has signed on with the Tijuana Dragones. KPBS reporter Amy Isackson has the story.
Rodman has signed on for ten home games with the Tijuana team. He makes his debut at the city's Municipal Auditorium tomorrow.
Rodman doesn't speak Spanish, but Dragones President Carlos Atilano doesn't think that'll be a problem.
Atilano: "He just say, 'Hola.' But we have eight players from the U.S.and two from Mexico. So there's no problem to communicate with the teammates."
The Dragones are one of 48 teams, and the only Mexican entry, in the newly reformed American Basketball Association.
The ABA merged with the NBA about thirty years ago. But before that it was a major competitor. It was the birthplace of the red, white and blue basketball and the three point shot. The ABA hopes to have 100 teams in the next few years.
Meanwhile, Tijuana's Dragones hope Rodman helps boost their attendance. Amy Isackson, KPBS news.
