All organizations in California with 50 or more employees have just two weeks left to put managers through sexual harassment training. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has the story.
The state assembly bill that requires the training was signed in 2004. It requires managers at organizations of 50 or more to have had at least two hours of sexual harassment training within the last two years.
Sara Lee is spokeswoman for the California Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber offers an online course that 4,000 managers have completed so far. She says organizations that fail to comply with the training requirements open themselves to sanctions.
Lee: "They're open to action from the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. But they're also opening themselves up to folks that can complain that they're not offering a happy and harassment free workplace."
Employees filed more than 3,500 sexual harassment suits statewide in 2003. Meanwhile, 3,900 allege their employers retaliated against them for complaining.
