A new law aims to help young women protect themselves from sexual assaults on college campuses. KPBS reporter Beth Ford Roth has the story.
The new law will require California's public universities and colleges to provide incoming students with information on ways to prevent becoming victims of sexual violence, and also what resources are available to them if they ever are assaulted. Democratic Assemblywoman Jenny Oropeza authored the measure.
Oropeza: "Before the students even become full-time or part-time students at the campus, as part of the orientation process, they would be made aware of the services available and also information on how to stay safe."
In addition to being part of orientation materials, the information will also be available on college websites. The law went effect January first. Beth Ford Roth, KPBS
