San Diego City Schools Superintendent Carl Cohn is encouraging students to attend school this Monday - the day a nationwide boycott is scheduled by immigration advocates. KPBS reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
District officials anticipate students will probably not go to school on Monday instead of staging walkouts. If they skip school on May 1st, Cohn says students may face detention or Saturday school. Students could be suspended if they are openly defiant of school officials and leave campus without permission. Cohn says district officials will arrest students if the situation gets out of control.
Cohn: "We'll be in communication with law enforcement, and whatever we need to do to ensure student safety, we will do."
Cohn is urging immigrant students and employees to take part in demonstrations after school on Monday. So far the district has sent letters to parents emphasizing the importance of attendance as the school year winds down. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
