Parents and residents in the Sweetwater Union High School District will meet again today and discuss a plan to build cellular antennas on three campuses. It's the second of three meetings this week. KPBS Reporter Ana Tintocalis has more.
The district wants feedback on whether cell-phone towers should be built at San Ysidro, Chula Vista and Castle Park High Schools. School officials are considering the plans because cell-phone companies pay the district more than $100,000 for using the space. But regional PTA president Brian Bonner says safety should come first.
Bonner: I certainly understand the desire to increase funds for school, but parents are concerned because they're child could be harmed and they don't believe there's enough information out there.
District officials say there's no evidence that the antennas, which stand more than 30-feet high, expose students to certain health risks. They say the towers are a great source of revenue at a time when school funding is drying up. Ana Tintocalis, KPBS News.
