Three hundred national guard troops are mobilizing to provide extra security at three major California airports. That's in response to the arrest of 21 people last night in Britain on allegations of a terrorist plot to bomb U.S. bound air flights.
Matthew Bettenhausen heads the California Department of Homeland Security. He advises air travelers to give themselves at least two hours at the airport prior to departure time because of additional screenings.
Bettenhausen: We have banned all liquids and gels in carry on luggage on domestic and international flights here in the United States. We want to encourage passengers to pack those things in checked baggage.
The airports receiving additional National Guard troops include LAX, San Francisco and Oakland. The California Highway Patrol is also preparing to add security at airports around the state.
