Tijuana Mayor Jorge Hank Rhon gives his second state of the city address Monday evening. In a departure from last year’s lavish event at the city’s municipal auditorium, Hank returns to tradition this year to give his speech at City Hall. KPBS Reporter Amy Isackson has the story.
For his first state of the city address, Mayor Hank rented the city’s Auditorium, laid a red carpet for VIPs, and hired women with red dresses to pass out red roses to those important guests. Red is the official color of Hank’s party.
It’s not clear to what extent or expense the administration will go this year. But political analysts in Tijuana expect similar themes to top Hanks’s speech.
Victor Clark heads the Bi-National Center for Human Rights in Tijuana. He says the two fundamental issues in Tijuana are infrastructure and security.
Regardless, Clark says everything Hank does and says now is geared towards his expected run for Governor of Baja California. Hank plans to leave office nine months before his term ends to campaign for the position. Amy Isacskon, KPBS News.
